109: That's So Raven

Photobucket
Illustration Friday’s weekly theme of polar makes me think of the raven. Not entirely a polar bird (and I think, by absolute definition, there are no true polar creatures), ravens are still strong symbols of the higher latitudes and icons of the Great White North. I drew this raven in pen from a photograph (not my own) for an unrelated recent project and decided to snatch it for I-F’s theme also – adding dashes of subtle colour to the mix to give a bit more resonance.

It is so nice to see tribal mythology incorporated into the topic and very different! Bravo.

hey Jeope. i have a good friend here at UAF that studies ravens up at Prudhoe Bay. she has wonderful stories about how smart they are. she has to dress as a male oil worker (mustache and all) to be able to tag them because they are on to her- they study her every move! she'll love the drawing- i'll pass it on.

Really terrific! This is incredibly well done.

Thanks all!

Ben, I've heard all about raven smarts. They're amazing. The stories of ravens getting into the storage compartments on snowmobiles are particularly amusing.

Heeeyyy,

Just looking for Rocket Robin Hood stuff (as I always do to quell my serial killer needs) and I found that old RRH t-shirt design you were considering doing....you don't want to know how many times my friends and I would talk about what a great shirt that would make -- often in a haze of bong smoke, but that's irrelevant -- someone actually did it!

That means there is someone as smart as I am, and that's scary.

Anyways, did you ever get the image on a t?

The textures in the background just add to the beauty of this raven. I would love to see a whole sketchbook of these.

I love this raven drawing. I have run into quite a few raven art projects over the last two days. I think this one is a nice one. I love the feather details.
